Most people have a reason for everything, their accelerating force varying from necessity , compunction to influence, Baptism however, is more personal. Making the decision to get baptized can be more challenging to some people compared to others and I believe this is because of the way they have been influenced. I believe although each one of our thoughts are all different, but they are so only because of one’s varied experiences. Some say “we are what we eat” and I think the phrases “we are what we do” and “we are what we hear or perceive” applies too, as what we hear, do or see influences our mind and they are the building blocks of our thoughts and conviction. Above all, God is our most important influence, as different thoughts will cause different questions and opinions and only God is able to answer these questions.
Before the Conference in Abroath, I only had the will to get Baptized but not a clear reason, As I seek for answers to different questions I proceeded to the 3 day conference in Abroath, near Dundee, where I was strongly influenced by our Lord, Jesus. At the conference, I was unkind to somebody and as a result we both were in despair, but I prayed to God using all of my strength and heart, and found out that our distrust in each other resolved. Also the singing and praising of the Lord, even the weather, when the forecasted snow turned into days of sunshine, made me truly believe that God is with us.
I also felt God’s love, his love for me and everyone there, thus, from the conference I had found my reason to be baptized.
Baptism is not only about new life, it is also about death of our old lives, and I believe that the death of our old life is as important as new life, as because we are what we do and what we do is based on what we see or hear, For example, before we put on new clothes we have to put off our old clothes. Before we can have new good habits we have to deal with our old bad habits. I think we can all agree that the world is not perfect, as it is with many arguments and disagreements, all caused by different opinions. After baptism, I aim to depend on Jesus by obeying His Word so that I can die to my old life and live my new life in the true freedom made possible by Jesus.
